Monywa’s first walking Thingyan to be held

Mandalay 13 March

Monywa’s first walking Thingyan will be organized at Kanthaya in Monywa this year, according to the organizing committee.

“The regional government held the festival at the beach named “Chindwin Thingyan” last year and the number of revelers at the beach was more than that of around the town. This has prompted the authorities to hold the walking Thingyan this year to preserve traditional custom” said U Aung Nay Myo, member of the organizing committee.

At the event, there will be canoes to put water at the 30 water throwing pandals with palm fronds and those who want to take part in the festival are to use silver bowl to throw water to the visitors. In addition, the sales of alcohol, cigarette and advertising will be banned.
