MoHS holds public health symposium on COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Sports organized a public healthcare symposium on COVID-19 yesterday, to mark 67th Myanmar Medical Conference.


During the conference, Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe explained holding discussion, conference and tabletop exercise for better treatment and healthcare system, effective public health strategies, rapid diagnosis and distribution of COVID-19 related medical supplies.


He also emphasized the need to upgrade the treatment system in relation to the nature of virus transmission and mutation in local and foreign countries and study the new treatment and therapy of international countries and lab tests in a timely manner.


The Union Minister also made suggestions on conducting a survey for COVID-19’s consequence based on the data of old COVID-19 patients, exchanging information of different disease control strategies among the countries, and establishing the effective strategies which conform to the various situation of the country.


He continued to say that although the infection rate in the country falls, the people need to follow the health rules as usual. All the people should know the nature of the disease that it can surge again.


He pointed out that the duration of the current COVID-19 outbreak and infection rate of the country depend on the individuals’ adherence to health rules.


The ministry also conducted public health awareness programmes across the nation like Mask and Face Shield Campaign, Stop COVID-19 Yellow Campaign and awareness plan among the family members.


The Union Minister advised being readiness for prevention of some diseases such as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Ebola virus disease (EVD) which broke out in the past.


He finally called for further cooperation of officials concerned in disease control activities.
