Massive floods kill at least 5 in Russia

More than 1,000 people have been forced to evacuate in massive floods in Russia's Siberian Irkutsk region.

Torrential rain last Tuesday caused rivers to burst their banks. Some districts are still inundated on Sunday.

Russia's state-run Tass news agency reports at least five deaths, with two missing and 1,700 houses flooded.

Footage shows a helicopter rescuing people stranded on the roof of a house.

President Vladimir Putin visited the affected area on his way back from Japan after the G20 summit.

At a meeting with relevant officials, Putin said Siberia's short summer gave them limited time to act.

He ordered the officials to help disaster victims and immediately start efforts to reconstruct houses.

Rivers are reportedly receding but weather officials expect more heavy rain this coming weekend.
