Magway, 20 January

More than 2 billion kyats will be spent on construction of rural roads and box culverts in 23 villages in Magway Region so as local people can transport their products to the market in time, according to the Department of Rural Development.

Rural roads measuring over 56 miles and 58 box culverts are scheduled to be built in 23 townships in Magway Region in the current fiscal year. “Each rural road will be 20 ft. in width and will be built with the permission of farmland owners,” said U Myo Aung, Director of the DRD.

The DRD built rural roads measuring more than 67 miles long and 191 box culverts in 19 townships in Magway Region in the previous financial year at a cost of 2.1 billion kyats.

“Local farmers experienced hardships due to poor road transportation. I would like to urge local people to preserve durability of   the rural roads,” said U Thaung, a local farmer in Magway Township.
