Landslide at abandoned jade mine leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

Two jade scavengers died and two others were injured in a landslide in Phakant Township, Kachin State on 4 May, according to a source from the township administrator’s office.

The accident occurred at an abandoned jade mine belonging to the Zabu mining company near Seikmu Village-tract in Phakant Township at around 4:30 pm on 4 May. Tw men who were scavenging jade pieces in the mine died and two others were hurt after a mining waste pile collapsed. Two corpses were retrieved from the debris by village officials and members of a local social organization.

The deceased and injured people were sent to a public hospital in Phakant by an ambulance from a local social organization and a probe has been launched to investigate into the case by the local police.—Win Naing
