Israeli army says hits Hamas sites in Gaza

Israel's military said on Wednesday night it had carried out retaliatory airstrikes at sites in the Gaza Strip belonging to Hamas.

A military spokesperson said in a statement that fighter jets struck "a number of Hamas terror targets" in the northern Gaza Strip.

The sites included a weapons manufacturing place and a military compound, said the spokesperson.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The strikes came after unidentified militants in Gaza fired four projectiles at southern Israel, causing no injuries or damage. Two of the rockets were intercepted by Iron Dome, Israel's anti-rocket system.

The cross-border violence came amidst international efforts, led by Egypt and the United Nations, to achieve a long-term ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
