Illegal sawn teak timbers seized in Bamauk

Bamauk, 18 April

 

Authorities seized illegal sawn teak timbers and related materials used for sawing timbers in Manmaw forest reserve located east of Kaungkaik Village, Mamauk Township, Sagaing Region on 16 April.

 

Acting on a tip-off, authorities comprising Assistant Director of Katha District Forest Department U Myint Naing Oo, staff officer of Bamauk Forest Department U Hmun Ko, forest staff and police members from Bamauk and the Administrator of Kaungkaik Village U Phe Aung searched Manmaw forest reserve-95 located about over one mile east of the village and confiscated 21 teak logs weighing 4.504 tons, a sawmill, a round saw and related materials and 260 sawn teak lumbers weighing 1.8150 tons.

 

All of sawn teak timbers and materials were handed over to forest official in the Village. The search for the owner of illegal timbers and saw mill is ongoing. Action is being taken against the seized timbers and sawmill in accordance with the Forest Law.—U Ko Min
