Mandalay Region Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department will provide sufficient irrigated water from Hsedawgyi Dam for the local farmers who will grow summer paddy and summer sesame on 67,348 acres of land starting from the first week of February.
Now, the Hsedawgyi Dam has entirely stored the water. At the end of December, the Hsedawgyi dam has 358,260 acres of remaining water level with 84,000 acres of dead water level and 274,260 acres of usable water. Depending upon the remaining water level, the department targeted to provide full water to 67,053 acres of summer paddy and 295 acres of summer sesame for the local farmers in this financial year.
Likewise, dam water will be left for monsoon paddy cultivation for the next season, said U San Min Tun, deputy director of Mandalay Region Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department. “We will provide the irrigated water fully to the summer paddy growers. To be able to provide enough water, we have already stored 363,000 acres of water in 419.5-foot wide Hsedawgyi dam,” he clarified.
The department is planning to grow 67,053 acres of summer paddy in Mandalay and PyinOoLwin district of water area including 42,225 acres of summer paddy in Madaya township, 65 acres in Chanmyathazi township, 18,807 acres in Patheingyi township and 5,956 acres in Amarapura township. Also, the department targeted to plant 295 acres of summer sesame crops.
