Hong Kong govt. condemns US senate bill

Hong Kong's government has expressed regret over US legislation to protect human rights in the territory.

The government issued a statement in response to the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act passed in the US Senate on Tuesday.

The statement warns that the legislation undermines relations and interests between Hong Kong and the United States.

It says that the demonstrations and rallies have become violent and illegal, and that police maintain control and are dealing with protesters in line with laws.

The statement condemns the legislation, saying that any form of interference with Hong Kong's internal affairs by a foreign parliament is unacceptable.
