Health authorities discuss activities against 2019 Novel Coronavirus

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe presided over a meeting of health authorities on monitoring and preventive measures against 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), held at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

At the coordination meeting (8/2020), officials discussed update announcements of World Health Organization, possible transmission rate of virus calculated by international experts, trial treatments on respiratory disease caused by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus in China and other countries, detail analysis on the spread of 2019-nCoV from the epidemiological perspective and tightening monitoring measures.

 

They also shared knowledge on medical treatment procedures to suspected/confirmed patients in quarantined wards, monitoring persons under investigations and information exchange with WHO.

 

Health service personnel also discussed activities of monitoring teams at three international airports of the country and 20 border checkpoint in 10 townships of 4 States/Regions, reduction of daily flight landings from China from 26 to 2— one from Shanghai and one from Hong Kong, medical services for suspect patient and persons under investigation and collaboration with private hospitals and clinics.

 

They also discussed instructions to hotels and guesthouses to report on suspected symptoms to the nearest health centers, health conditions of 59 Myanmar students who were brought back from Wuhan city to Mandalay on 2 February, accumulation of funds, medicines and equipment and distributions of medical items.

 

The Union Minister advised for making adequate response to prevent the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, suggestion of WHO to quash rumours on the disease and real-time information of the ministry on its internet website and social network page.

 

He also suggested the use of dashboard format for public information about spread of disease, taking specimens for laboratory tests and working with the National Health Laboratory.

 

The Union Minister added collecting the number of new health facilities which has not been used across the country, collaboration with the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre, Ministry of Border Affairs and the Ministry of Defence Services in monitoring disease at the border areas and postponing some entertainment events.—MNA
