Head-on collision between two cars leaves one dead, six injured

One person was killed and six others injured after a taxi collided with a minibus in Htantabin Township, Yangon Region on Sunday.

The accident took place between mileposts 11/1 and 11 on the Yangon-Pathein Road near Nyaungbintha Village, Htantabin Township at around 2:30 p.m. on 26 May. An over-speeding taxi driven by a man identified as Tun Nyo, 49 years old slammed into a minibus coming from an opposite direction after the driver lost control of the car. The two vehicles damaged badly in the incident and a woman named Daw Khin Hla, 65 years of age from the taxi died on the spot.

Six people from both cars were also injured and they were sent to a public hospital in Hlaingthayar. Firefighters from a nearby fire station rushed to the scene of the accident to undertake the rescue work. The taxi driver has been charged with reckless driving by the police.—Zin Min Htike (Htantabin)
