Haul of drugs seized in Maungtaw

Maungtaw police seized nearly 200000 stimulant tablets in Saytipyin Village in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, police members from Maungtaw Anti-Drug Squad-46 searched the house of Husaung Shawreik in Saytipyin Village and the four men, identified as Usaman, Adhu Rawsheik, Mahmad Amin and Abhu Mau Zu fled from the house. But Mahmad Amin and Abhu Maw Zu were caught by the police after a short chase. The search led to the discovery of 7460 stimulant tablets from them.

Similarly on the same day, members of security force also searched the house of Ahmed Khawrin in Usheekyar Village and seized 185250 stimulant tablets from the polythene bags buried beneath the ground in the house.

Police members from Lashio Anti-Drug Squad-24 also intercepted and searched a motorbike driven by Aik Kham with Aik Ri on board and seized raw opium weighing 7.8 kilos and a mobile phone from them.

The authorities filed charges against them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.—MPF
