Haiti memorial ceremony honors earthquake victims

A memorial ceremony has been held in Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince to mark one decade since a devastating earthquake claimed more than 300,000 lives.

President Jovenel Moise and other dignitaries placed flowers at a monument to the disaster that left 1.5 million people homeless. The event was held on Saturday.

People gathered at churches nationwide, praying for deceased family and friends.

After 10 years, aid from abroad is diminishing. Political instability and ongoing anti-government protests are also slowing recovery and reconstruction.
