ALLround efforts were made for all round development of Yangon. In doing so, in addition to implementing new housing projects, old hous-ing projects were also being up-graded or renovated. Gyo Gone Housing was one such old hous-ing project that will be upgraded.
Constructed in 1952
Gyo Gone Housing was first established in 1952 right beside Baho Road in Yangon Region Insein Township West Gyo Gone Ward. It was constructed as rent-al apartments just like U Wisara Housing, Hpa Sa Pa La Housing and Yankin 12 Building Housing.
As time goes by, the strength and appearance of such hous-ings deteriorate. Now the time has come for Gyo Gone Housing to be upgraded.
Gyo Gone Housing Upgrade Project, a cooperation effort be-tween Yangon Region government and Ministry of Construction, was one of Yangon Region government’s public housing upgrade projects.
Relocation to new apart-ments by drawing lot
Gyo Gone Housing was sit-uated on about 16 acres of land. While the upgrade or reconstruction works were conducted, those living in the present Gyo Gone Housing apartments will have to move out. Once the Gyo Gone Housing Upgrade Project was completed, the tenants of the current apartments will be allocated to new apartments by drawing lots. Yangon Region government plan to help with relocation cost.
Yangon Metropolitan Devel-opment Public Co., Ltd. was as-signed as tender coordinator for tender work process and inviting investment proposals.
Interest to invest
Starting from 5 November 2019, locals and foreign compa-nies can make tender proposals. According to announcements made in state-own media, the tender closing date was 20 De-cember 2019. Some local and foreign companies had shown interest in it and were reportedly making enquiries and preparations.
Gyogon Housing Upgrade Project was included in Yangon Region Government’s Yangon Project Bank. It was one of the 80 projects that were posted in the Yangon Project Bank. It is a public housing upgrade project conducted under the guidance of Yangon Region government and the management and supervi-sion of Department of Urban and Housing Development.
Constructing housings like Gyo Gone Housing allows low-income families to have ap-propriate housing and for urban dwellers to live in modern and better standard housings achiev-ing higher living standard. It will certainly support the develop-ment of Yangon.
Construction of fair-value housings
Gyo Gone Housing Upgrade Project is not simply upgrading of the old housing with fair-val-ue housing but will also include school, health care clinic, green area or park.
In Yangon, most public housings were old buildings built more than half a century ago and Yangon Region government was planning to upgrade and modernize them all. Modernizing and upgrading of old public housings like Pyi Ttaw Thit Housing in Pazundaung Township and Hpa Sa Pa La Housing had started.
Gyo Gone Housing Upgrade Project for which tenders were being issued was one of the elev-en housing and industrial zone projects being constructed by Ministry of Construction in Yan-gon Region.
Linked with transportation
If housing projects in Yangon were developed togetherwith transportation sector, liv-ing standards of urban dwellers in Yangon will soon be raised to another level. Success of a housing project was intertwined with ease of transport like bus and train links.
Gyo Gone Housing Upgrade Project had good bus and train links conveniently within a short walking distance and would cer-tainly be a fair-value housing that would support Yangon’s devel-opment.
