Ground breaking ceremony of seven stories building of New Yangon Specialist Hospital held in Yangon

The Ground Breaking Ceremony of “the Project for the Construction of New Yangon Specialist Hospital” was held at the construction site of New Yangon General Specialist Hospital on 28 April 2019.

 


In this ceremony, H.E Dr. Myint Htwe, Union Minister of Health and Sports (MoHS), U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Regional Government, H.E Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Mr. Masayuki KARASAWA, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delivered the speeches.

 


JICA grants total amount of 8.661 billion Japanese Yen to the government of Myanmar to construct a new seven stories building with teaching functions, through relocation of the selected clinical departments for cardiology, cardiac surgery, neuro medicine and neurosurgery from Yangon General Hospital. The government of Myanmar will take responsibility to procure equipment required for the new facilities to improve the health services at the hospital. Its construction is expected to complete in early 2021.

 


Japan has been cooperating for the health sector in Myanmar since 1970s, by supporting for the human resource development, health system strengthening, infectious disease control and etc. New Yangon Specialist Hospital will be one of the flagship projects of Myanmar and Japan cooperation.

 


The project site is located near the New Yangon General Hospital, which was also constructed under Japanese Grant Aid in 1984.—JICA
