Govt discusses establishment of Tamu trade zone

Government is working for the establishment of a trade zone in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, which is bordering with India.

Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint, in his capacity as the chairman of trade zone implementation committee, chaired a coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw for this project yesterday. At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the Tamu trading zone is aimed to promote trade for the interests of residents as the area is close to the India border.

The Union Minister also urged the participants of the meeting to give suggestions for speeding up the implementation of the tasks cooperating with the relevant departments and the Sagaing Region government.

Participants also discussed the bilateral trade, employment opportunities, establishment of a larger trading zone in the future and to form a new committee from Sagaing Region government for supervising closely along with the existing two committees.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister, the Minister for Planning and Finance of Sagaing Region government, the Permanent Secretary, the Directors-General, the Deputy Directors-General, the chairperson of the Kalay-Tamu-Kalewa Border Trade Chamber of Commerce and officials.—MNA
