Myaungmya, 13 March

Nine houses have been destroyed by the fire Ngamyinchaung Village in Myaungmya Township, Ayeyawady Region yesterday afternoon.

The fire broke out at a house belonging to a villager identified as Nanttote, an odd-job worker while she was going to a grocery to buy something after she prepared to cook rice in the kitchen at around 12:30 noon on 12 March. Firefighters in cooperation with residents took about an hour to completely extinguish the flame. The blaze engulfed eight nearby houses, two Chinese-made motorbikes, four generators and nearly 700 baskets of paddy. The fire also made 34 people from eight households homeless.

The fire victims are currently taking shelter at a temporary relief camp in the village’s monastery. Arrangement is being made to take action against the house owner over fire negligence by the local police station.—Aung Min (Myaungmya)
