Fire destroys shops in Ngakhuya market in Maungdaw Tsp

No casualties were reported in the fire that broke out at 2;50 pm in Ngakhuya market in Maungdaw township in Rakhine state yesterday.

 

The cause of the fire was attributed to a cigarette fire that was thrown away near a rubbish dump inside the compound of the market. the cigarette fire continued to spread to the shops in the market.  Local fire fighters rushed to the fire scene to put out the fire with the use of three fire engines. The firefighters took at least two hours to bring the fire under control.

 

A total of 83 shops – 29 shops with goods and 54 shops without goods – were destroyed by the fire.—Thet Lwin Soe (IPRD)
