Fire destroys home, school in Nyaung-U Township

Nyaung-U, 6 July

A fire broke out in No.(6) Aungmyetha Ward in the town of Nyaung-U at about 9:20 am on July 6 and destroyed a house and a school, according the Township Fire Services Department.

Fire was believed to have started from overheated cooker in the home of Daw Hmun Yee and spread to nearby school and completely destroyed a house and a school.

Firemen from the Township Fire Services Department and police members from Myoma Police Station rushed to the incident scene to put out the fire in collaboration with auxiliary firefighters and locals using three fire engines, and the blaze was successfully extinguished at about 9:35 am.

The estimated damage to properties destroyed by the fire was about Ks. 300000. But no casualties were reported in the incident. The owner of the home Daw Hmun Yee was charged for her negligence in Nyaung-U Myoma Police Station.—Ye Win Naing(Nyaung-U)
