Fire destroys 20 houses in Meikhtila

Myeikhtila, 27 April

 

A fire broke out at around 4:00 am today in Aungsabae Ward-1 in Meikhtila, Mandalay Region, destroying 20 houses.

 

The fire was thought to have started from overheated electrical wires installed in the kitchen of the house of Zaw Oo in Meikhtila and spread to neighboring houses. Firemen from the Mekhtila, Thazi, Mahlaing, Pyawbwe Fire Services Departments led by staff officer of the District FSD U Kyaw San rushed to the scene to fight the fire with the use of fire engines in cooperation with locals and the blaze was extinguished within one hour.

 

No casualties were reported in the fire, but properties worth about K 188, 000 were damaged and altogether 97 people- 50 male and 47 female – were evacuated from their homes. The authorities filed charges against Zaw Oo for his negligence.—Kyaw Kyaw (Mahlaing)
