Nyaung-U, 29 April
A fire broke out at around 7:20 pm yesterday in Ward-3, Nyaung-U District, Mandalay Region.
The fire was thought to have started from an ember left by U Kyaw Naing Thu in the kitchen of his fatherin-law U Soe Thein Hlaing’s house in Nyaung-U. Firemen led by U Thet Naing from Nyaung-U District Fire Services Department together with policemen from the Township Police Station rushed to the scene to fight the fire with the use of fire engines and water tankers in cooperation with locals and the blaze was extinguished within 16 minutes.
No casualties were reported in the fire, but the house was totally destroyed. The authorities filed charges against U Kyaw Naing Thu for his negligence.—Kyaw Kyaw (Mahlaing)
