DoH conducts mass vaccination campaign in Mese

The Department of Health under the Ministry of Health and Sports conducted a mass immunization campaign in conjunction with an awareness campaign at the meeting hall of the public hospital in the town of Mese, Bawlakhe District, Kayah State yesterday.

 

At the event, Dr. Aung Zaw Tun from the township Department of Public Health delivered a speech. “Rotavirus is a very contagious virus that causes diarrhea.” He said.

 

“It's the most common cause of diarrhea in infants and children, resulting between 35 and 60 percent deaths under children below one year old annually in Myanmar” he added.

 

Next, an official from Department of Public Health clarified the purpose of mass vaccination for children below one year old and disseminate knowledge about rotavirus, coronavirus and don’t and do’s at rural healthcare centers on a monthly basis.

 

Also present on the occasion were departmental officials, social organizations, invited guests and staff from the DoH in the township.—Wat Yee, IPRD
