French authorities say two more people have been confirmed dead in Saturday's powerful explosion in central Paris, bringing the death toll to four. It also injured 54 people and nine of them remain in critical condition. The blast is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.
The explosion at a six-story building blew out a bakery on the ground floor, and damaged vehicles and buildings in the vicinity.
French prosecutors told NHK on Sunday that one of the 2 victims is a Spanish tourist who was staying at a nearby hotel. Another was a resident of the building and her body was found under the rubble.
Investigative sources say firefighters received reports of a gas leak just before the explosion. They suspect the blast was caused by the gas leak.
Authorities have cordoned off the area to check whether other buildings are in danger of collapse.
