China donates 20 ventilators to Myanmar

China donated ventilators to aid the containment and treatment of COVID-19 in a ceremony at Yangon International Airport yesterday.

The donation is organized by the Embassy of China in Myanmar and the special flight transporting the ventilators from China landed in Yangon International Airport at 10 am yesterday and was received by officials from the Ministry of Health and Sports, the Tatmadaw medical group and Chinese Embassy.

“China is donating 20 ventilators for use in containing and treating COVID-19,” said Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai. “They are important for treating the virus and this is the first donation made. There will be other donations in the future and China will cooperate with Myanmar to contain COVID-19. This sort of cooperation strengthens bilateral friendship.”

The value of the 20 ventilators is USD 400,000 and the next batch of 15 ventilators will be arriving in the near future, said the Chinese Ambassador. Similarly, a team of medical professionals from Yunnan Province arrived in Myanmar on 8 April together with medical supplies. The medical team had completed their assignment in Myanmar and left for China on the special fight that carried the ventilators here.
