Hluttaw representatives continued the voting process on the constitutional amendment during the 22nd-day meeting of the Second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw’s 15th regular session yesterday.
Twenty MPs had filed for leave, with 634 out of 654 MPs attending to vote on voting category (4), which contains 12 provisions related to Section 436-(a) of the Constitution.
Amending the constitution’s provisions require a vote of more than 75 per cent of all the representatives of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. After the secret ballot, the Speaker announced that none of the proposals garnered the required number of votes for the amendment, and thus remain unchanged.
In detail, the proposal for repealing Section 422 received 416 votes in favor, amending Section 423 received 418 votes, repealing Section 425 received 415 votes, repealing Section 426 received 415 votes, amending Section 427 received 416 votes, amending Section 427-(a) received 414 votes, amending Section 428 received 417 votes, amending Section 429 received 417 votes, repealing Section 431 received 414 votes, amending Section 432 received 416 votes, amending Section 436-(a) received 414 votes, and amending Section 436-(b) received 413 votes.
