Brazil reports at least 80 election-related deaths

8 Nov

Police in Brazil are reporting a rising number of killings related to upcoming local elections.

Police officials say at least 80 people, including candidates, had been killed by the end of October.

They say election-related deaths began increasing in September.

Some of the victims were candidates who accused incumbent mayors and others of corruption. Campaigning for the November 15 elections has been done mainly online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Police are warning candidates and concerned parties to act calmly.
