BPI Pharmaceutical Factory (Insein) in Yangon is doubling production of hand sanitizers and ethanol to meet market demand amid COVID-19. Factory Manager Dr Khin Pyone Lwin said ethanol can be purchased freely in the pharmacy in front of the factory but hand sanitizers will be limited to one bottle per person, all at the factory imposed price with no increase.
The hand sanitizers and ethanol produced at the BPI factory meets GMP guidelines and is continued to be sold at normal prices, according to factory officials. Dr Khin Pyone Lwin said they are producing the pharmaceuticals in line with directives from the Ministry of Health and Sports, including antibiotics. Factory workers are also working under increased rotational shifts to meet production demands.
The BPI factory in Insein Township produces more than 180 different pharmaceutical products. Their hand sanitizers come in 50ml, 500ml and 4Litre bottles while ethanol is packaged in 100ml and 500ml bottles.
The presence of COVID-19 has caused imported and domestically produced hand sanitizers and ethanol to be completely purchased out of the market. —Min Thit (MNA) (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
