Local authorities and volunteers are working together to prevent Coronavirus infection by disinfecting surfaces in the markets, bridges and public areas.
Dawei
The community-based support group on prevention of COVID-19 in Dawei, Taninthayi Region, sprayed chlorine disinfectants in the local Kannar Market yesterday. The support group also collaborated with civil society organizations, ward administrators, local elders and philanthropic volunteers in spraying and washing afterwards.
This process will also be performed at the Shin Koe Shin pagodas, usually crowded with people, markets, highway terminal and airport soon.
Kawthoung
As COVID-19 sweeps across the globe, Taninthayi Region’s Kawthoung authorities are taking it as their national duty to prevent the spread of the virus throughout the entire nation. Officials in Kawthoung Township are monitoring the Myanmar-Thai entry/exit borders and carrying out surveillance in efforts to prevent the disease infection.
The Kawthoung District Committee on Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 on 26 March led a team of committee members, officials from the health department, government departments, Red Cross and NGOs to clean the handrails, walls and floors of crowded public spaces such as Yeseik Myoma Bridge, Dhammayone port, markets and disinfecting them for a second time.
They also provided prevention techniques to market stall owners and customers, hand basins, hand soap and tissues, and hung up precautionary vinyl posters.
Kyunsu
The General Administration Department of Kyunsu Township, Myeik District, Taninthayi Region, is leading preparations against COVID-19. These include inviting monks to recite mantras to dispel the virus, collaborating with village administrators to distribute pamphlets on the virus to each house, and announcing precautionary steps via megaphones in communities.
They also checked the body temperature of passengers at port bridges in Kyunsu Township and other villages and notifying people to wash their hands to get rid of the virus. —Sithu Aung (Kyunsu)
Bokpyin
The administrator of Karathuri, Bokpyin Township, U Aye Myo Aung, is leading the processes to screen people returning from abroad, managing ward and village processes, and facility quarantines for people returning from abroad.
