Boat engulfed in flames while anchored in Myeik

A fire broke out on a small passenger boat anchored at Seikngle jetty in Myeik, Taninthayi Region early this morning, according to a source from the local fire brigade.

 

The fire started from an overheated battery of the passenger boat that belongs to a local hotelier named U Thar Thar while anchoring at a small jetty in Myeik. Firefighters led by the head of the township police force Police Major Aye Min together with local people took more than an hour to completely put out the blaze by using two fire engines, four water tankers and fire extinguishers.

 

No casualties were reported but some furniture and personal items were damaged by the fire. The estimated loss of property due to the fire is about Ks. 700,000. In connection with the fire, U Hlaing Tun, 42 years old, a mechanic has been charged with negligence fire by the local police station.
