US President Joe Biden has told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that he will work to strengthen ties with France and other European nations.

The White House says the two leaders had a telephone conversation on Sunday. It says the leaders agreed on the need for close coordination in tackling common challenges such as climate change and COVID-19.

Biden also spoke over the phone with Canadian and Mexican leaders on Friday, and the British prime minister on Saturday.

He has expressed his commitment to cooperate with the United Nations and other international institutions through global frameworks. He has also said he wants to strengthen relations with friends and allies of the United States.
