Local authorities destroyed illegally grown opium poppy plantations near Hpapheik Village in Mongkhet Township, Kengtung District in Shan state (East) at about 9:00 am on 9 January.
A combined team comprising policemen, officials from the Township General Administration Department, Police members from the Township Anti-drug squad and departmental staff jointly destroyed illegally grown opium poppy plantations near Wamkaung Village, Mongkhet Township in Shan state (East).
A total of seven acres of 2.5 feet high blooming poppies have been destroyed by local authorities.-- Township IPRD
