Assailant killed, 3 injured in explosion in downtown Kabul

The assailant was killed and three people were injured in a suicide bomb explosion in downtown Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, on Tuesday, an interior ministry spokesman confirmed.


"One suicide bomber blew himself up inside ablution room of Wazir Akbar Khan mosque at 7:25 p.m. local time, injuring three persons," spokesman Tariq Arian told Xinhua.


More information would be shared with the media as appropriate, the official added.
The blast damaged the room outside the main building of the mosque in Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood, where the cluster of embassies are located.


No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.


The blast was the latest in a string of bomb attacks in the city within the past month.
