Around 600,000 trees planted in Magway Region in four years

Magway, 24 April

About 600,000 trees have been planted in Magway Region in four years since the fiscal year 2016-2017 to green the dry zone through rural area development and people-centered programmes, according to the Dry Zone Greening Department.

“Planting the trees is only the way to protect air pollution and hot weather due to emission from the greenhouse. We would grow 124,425 saplings in the coming rainy season by establishing 1,900 acres of nursery. We have already made preparations for the nurseries, said U Sung Htwe, Director of the Dry Zone Greening Department. The DZGD also implemented around 7,689 acres of tree plantations and preserved 80,000 acres of natural forests during the four years, he added.

The department is carrying out the tasks under “Climate Change Center (CCC)” in the greening complex zones in Pakkoku, Chauk, Yenangyoung and Taungdwingyi Townships in cooperation with international organizations, he said.—Zay Yatu (Magway)
