56.54 tons of illegal timbers confiscated in seven days

With the participation of the public and personnel from Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection is implementing various methods including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to detect and seize illegal timbers and forest products in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the states and regions in Myanmar.

According to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments, 56.54 tons of illegal timbers including 14.23 tons of illegal teak, 8.35 tons of hardwood, 33.95 tons of others timbers, 11 vehicles and 20 culprits were seized and arrested from June 26 to July 2 this year in the country, according to Forest Department.—(MNA)
