A fire broke out in a house in Gojo City, Nara Prefecture, on Wednesday morning.
Police and firefighters say a couple in their 30s and their three children, aged eight, six, and two are currently unaccounted for. They are believed to be in the house.
The local fire department says five bodies were found inside the residence and are now being identified.
