A total of 46 illegal packages of cigarette were seized on Taungpyo-Kyeinchaung motorway in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State yesterday morning.
A joint contingent comprised of policemen from No-2 Border Guard Police Force and members of security forces from local battalion intercepted and searched a vehicle bound for Taungpyo village, driven by Hla Mayung Sein, 27, a resident of Yaynauk Ngartha village, Maungtaw Township.
The authorities seized 16 illegal packages of cigarette worth K 3.12 million, hidden inside the car, each package containing 50 Marble brand cigarette cases.
According to interrogation, Hla Maung Sein confessed that he was hired by U Zaw Tun of Kyeinchaung village to transport illegal packages of cigarette to U Po Yin and U Zaw Baw Jar, who are residing in Meetaik village, at a rate of K 10000 per package. Action is being taken against Hla Maung Sein under section 8 of Import-Export Law at Taungpyoya Area Police Station.
In a seperate incident, a combined team confiscated 30 illegal packages of cigarette- 25 “Marble” brand cigarette packages and five “Mansan” brand cigarette packages- from a vehicle heading to Taungpyo village, driven by Phyo Than Kyaw. Legal action is being taken against Phyo Than Kyaw under section 8 of Import-Export Law, according to information released by Myanmar Police Force.
