Researchers have found that the COVID-19 mutation Omicron is highly contagious and that the symptoms are mild, so community-based quarantine and treatment centres have been expanded to accommodate laboratory-confirmed patients.
It is prepared to provide healthcare services to 28,019 patients in 418 community- based centres and receive 9,609 patients in 93 community- based treatment centres, officials said.
In addition, quarantine centres have been set up to accommodate laboratory-confirmed patients, returnees from abroad and their contacts. There are 706 quarantine centres in each state/region and they are ready to accommodate up to 33,250 people, officials continued.
As of 4 January, the Ministry of Health has reported a total of 442,923 confirmed cases and 104 deaths worldwide due to the COVID-19 mutation. It has spread to 135 countries and regions in various parts of the world, including Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and Australia. There were 10,957 COVID- 19 cases diagnosed in Myanmar and 144 confirmed cases on 4 January 2022.
The number of hospital admissions was 95.84 per cent with only one death due to the disease, and casualties have dropped significantly. — Ko Naing (Bago)/GNLM
