4 dead after car plunges into ravine in Chin State

A car plummeted into a ravine in the Myanmar’s northwestern Chin State on Tuesday, killing four people aboard, according to the Information and Public Relations Department.

The crash took place around 5 a.m. on 21 May between mileposts 7/1 and 7/2 on the Tiddim-Reed Road near Lamzam Village, Tiddim Township in Chin State. Four people including a Buddhist monk were aboard the car when the accident occurred. Upon receiving the information, a police squad headed by officiating Police Major Khin Maung Htay together with a village administrator and eye witnesses rushed to the scene of the accident to assess the situation.

The car on the way to Reed from Kalay with three people was driven by a man identified as Khin Maung Myint, 65 years old and fell into a 30 ft. deep canyon. Four people including a Buddhist monk died on the spot in the incident. The cause of the accident is still unknown. Initial investigation showed that the vehicle suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the car.

A probe has been launched to investigate into the case in accordance with the law by the local people.—IPRD
