21 shops burnt to ashes in Maungdaw fire

Fire broke in Kyaukhleka Market in Thazaykon Village in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State at about 3:20 pm yesterday and totally destroyed 21 shops, according to the township Fire Services Department.


The fire was thought to have started from an ember left in the tea house of U Shaung Shu Ar Laung in the market and spread to nearby shops.


The blaze was completely extinguished by firefighters with the use of three fire engines at around 4:20 pm. Action has been taken against tea house owner over fire negligence by the local police station, according to Maungdaw Police Station.
