10 confirmed dead in China's gold mine blast

Chinese authorities say they have confirmed the deaths of 10 workers trapped underground after an explosion at a gold mine in the coastal province of Shandong.

The blast occurred at the mine in Qixia City on January 10. It caused tunnels to collapse, trapping 22 miners about 600 meters below the surface.

Eleven miners were pulled out alive on Sunday. But rescuers on Monday confirmed 10 workers were dead.

Officials say they will continue the search for one miner who is still missing. They say water in the tunnel is hampering their operation.

Authorities say the 11 rescued miners are being treated at hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
