MYANMAR’S negotiation with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China on signing the SPS Protocol Agreement for avocado export is progressing, according to the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Association (MFVP).
Upon signing the agreement, they discussed coordinating matters to ensure smooth trade. Next, Chinese investors are also seeking to invest in packing house facilities designed to fulfil international criteria. Consequently, invitations were extended to them. The detailed discussions are ongoing.
MFVP chair U Kyaw Thu and vice-chair Sai Khin Maung joined a delegation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry during a five-day Myanmar fruit sectoral development and China (Yunnan Province) Business Cooperation Linkage Visit from 9 to 13 June in Yunnan, China.
The delegation met the Yunnan Chamber of Commerce and Yunnan entrepreneurs regarding trade promotion matters. They also participated in the 10th China-South Asia Expo and the 30th Kunming Import & Export Fair to connect with new business partners and support the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for comprehensive cooperation on exporting Myanmar yams to China.
They had constructive discussions with fruit traders from Yunnan Province on enhancing mutual investment and facilitating smoother trade routes, particularly on mango, watermelon, muskmelon, avocado, durian, and jackfruit. The delegation also visited major fruit wholesale markets in Kunming City to exchange market information with old and new trade partners and also toured a new premium high-tech fruit wholesale market to study opportunities for Myanmar fruits to gain a foothold in the market.
