UNION Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint inspected ancient structures and historic waterway sites in the Bagan cultural heritage zone yesterday and reviewed ongoing preservation work.
In accord with the guidance of the Head of State, the Union Minister visited the Sinka brick monastery, where restoration is being carried out while preserving its original architectural features. He instructed officials to strictly follow conservation guidelines, procedures and preservation standards.
He also inspected arrangements for visitors at the Bagan Information and Training Centre in Old Bagan, which is operated by the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
During a separate inspection tour the previous day, the Union Minister visited Aggatae Temple, Paungkukon Pagoda, the palace sites of King Anawrahta and King Kyansittha, and the reconstructed Bagan Golden Palace. He also examined the eastern moat section of the Bagan city wall, which forms part of Waterway No 1 near Puttalin Pagoda and Tharawut Gate, as well as conservation work at Ananda Temple and Htilominlo Pagoda.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister met representatives from the Union of Myanmar Hoteliers Association (Bagan Zone), Myanmar Restaurants Association (Bagan Zone), Bagan Tourist Guides Association, Myanmar Tourism Transport Association (Bagan Zone), the Bagan Plastic Campaign group and officials from state-owned hotels at Heritage Hotel. — MNA/KZL
