THE State Administration Council held the Kathina robe-offering ceremony 2024 at Sasana Maha Beikman of Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, with the attendance of SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla.
The Senior General paid homage to the Buddha image in the building and offered alms in the alms-bowl, flowers, water, oil lights and fruits.
He viewed round display of the Kathina robes and offerings to be donated to Wazirananda Thubawdayon Monastery in Ottarathiri Township.
The Senior General and his wife donated Kathina robes and alms to Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Patron of Thanlyin Minkyaung Pahtamapyan Buddhism Learning Centre Aggamaha Pandita Aggamaha Saddhammajotikadhaja Dr Bhaddanta Candima Bhivamsa and Upaukkattha Joint Sangharaja of Shwegyin Nikaya Abbot of Wazirananda Thubawdayon Monastery of Ottarathiri Township Abhidhaja Maharatthaguru Rector Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Nandamala Bhivamsa, respectively.
SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe donated Kathina robes and alms to SSMNC Secretary Mandalay Dhamma Thameikdi Monastery Sayadaw.
The Council Secretary and his wife, the Joint Secretary and his wife, council members and their wives offered Kathina robes and alms to members of the Sangha.
The Sayadaw of Ohntaw Monastery in Pyinmana and the Sayadaw of Ngwetaung Tawya Monastery in Tatkon conducted a question-and-answer session on Kathina affairs.
The Senior General and the congregation listened to Kathina Anumodana preached by the Rector Sayadaw. SSMNC Secretary Presiding Patron of new Masoeyein monastery’s Dhamma Thameikdi Monastery Sayadaw Aggamaha Pandita Aggamaha Saddhammajotikadhaja Mahadhammakathika Bahujanahitadhara Bhaddanta Vasettha Bhivamsa delivered a sermon, and congregation shared merits gained.
After the ceremony, the Senior General, his wife and the congregation offered meals to members of the Sangha led by Thanlyin Minkyaung Sayadaw.
Also present at the ceremony were Union-level dignitaries, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command and officials.
At the ceremony, alms worth K53,233,340 and cash of K80,690,800 for nine prerequisites were donated to members of the Sangha. — MNA/TTA
