A total of 47,223 acres of rainfed sunflower were planted in seven districts in Monywa District of Sagaing Region in this year’s rain crops growing season, and out of them, 44,481 acres have been harvested so far, according to the Region Agriculture Department.
Under the close supervision and guidance of the Regional Department of Agriculture, officials from the District and Township Agriculture Departments are making field trips and providing agricultural techniques such as good quality seeds, systematic ways of planting and prevention of pest infestation to farmers in cooperation with relevant departments in the region.
In this year’s rain crops planting season, 47,223 acres of sunflower have been cultivated since the first week of May, including 9,537 acres in Monywa District, 16,089 acres in Yinmabin District, 1,117 acres in Shwebo District, 4995 acres in Ye-U District, 595 acres in Kanbalu District, 14789 acres in Sagaing District and 90 acres in Katha District, and as of now, 44,481 acres of sunflower have been harvested with an average yield of 22.28 percent per acre, and a total of 99,143 baskets of sunflower were produced, according to the statistics released by the Township Agriculture Department.—District IPRD
