Yangon hospitals ready to admit Covid-19 patients at specific places

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe visited the places where quarantines are being conducted in Yangon Region yesterday morning.


First, the Union Minister went to Dhammayanthi Monastery in Hlegu Township in the northern edge of Yangon Region where 218 people are placed under quarantine. He paid respects to Sayadaw Maha Kammathanacariya Bhaddanta Sunanda, the Principal Monk of the monastery, and thanked the Buddhist monks for providing a place for monitoring and quarantine, which is of vital importance in preventing and containing Covid-19.


Accompanied by officials, the Union Minister met with volunteers and expressed words of thanks and encouragement.


The Union Minister and party proceeded to Waibargi Specialist Hospital, met with the assigned staff and volunteers and expressed words of thanks and encouragement. They went round the hospital compound and visited the places where CT Scan and Oxygen Plant are under installation. He coordinated further arrangements for accommodating and treating patients.


Next, the Union Minister and party visited the officials of the new four-storey staff quarters in the compound of the University of Medicine where 16 doctors, nurses and other health staff, who had physical contacts with Covid-19 patients of North Okkalapa People’s Hospital, were placed under quarantine. The Union Minister looked into the requirements.


At the new four-storey building of the Women and Children’s Hospital in South Okkalapa, the Union Minister and party heard a report on the installation of health equipment at the intensive care ward and requirements. The Union Minister fulfilled the needs.


During the visit, Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe said the ministry has been upgrading the intensive care units of regions and states and arranging special refresher courses of intensive care for doctors, nurses and health counsellors. The Ministry will further enhance the courses amidst the Covid-19, and the programmes will produce benefits at present and in the long-run and will further improve the healthcare system. As hospitals in Yangon Region are ready to admit Covid-19 patients at isolated places, the 300-bed teaching hospital in Mandalay Region is also preparing to become a designated hospital for the confirmed cases. Clinical Management Teams with the participation of professors of medical universities and specialist physicians have been formed in regions and states for treating Covid-19 cases and provide counselling services, and they are now carrying out their work. The Ministry will provide medicines, medical equipment and laboratory equipment required in treating Covid-19 cases to the most possible degree. The hospitals should present their requirements as the Ministry will submit the hospital-wise lists to the Central Committee for approval.


The Union Minister then visited Thuwunna Football Academy where 25 persons are under quarantine and Myanmar Football Federation where 145 are under quarantine. He observed the healthcare undertakings at the two places, met with volunteers and spoke words of thanks and encouragement.


In the afternoon, the Union Minister visited Medical Research Department (Yangon) and attended the meeting where arrangements to set up a Call Centre that will disseminate public information about Covid-19 are explained.


Afterwards, the Union Minister and party proceeded to National Health Laboratory (Yangon) and observed the taking out and keeping of lab samples of Covid-19 through the application of RT-Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), extracting Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) from the lab samples, Mastermix Preparation, checking with PRC, and other steps. The Union Minister made swift arrangements to fulfill the needs of the National Health Laboratory (Yangon). —MNA
