World Bank-funded rural bridge under construction in Hsiseng Twsp.

Local authorities inspected construction of a rural bridge in Lemon Village, Hsiseng Township in PaO Self-Administered Zone in Southern Shan State on 5 May.

The small rural bridge is being built with Ks. 9.5 million of the funds from the Community-Driven Project being jointly implemented by the Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the World Bank. The facility measuring 26 ft. in length, 16 ft. in width and 6 ft. in height was checked design and quality by the concerned officials. The construction task is carried out by local people under the guidance of officials from the Community-Driven Project.

The village consists of 358 people from 81 households and majority of local people rely on agricultural businesses for their livelihood. Once completed, economy, health, education and transport will improve, thereby contributing to lifting locals out of poverty.—Khun Ye Htwe (Hsiseng)
