Wild elephant found dead in Ngapudaw Township

A wild elephant was found dead in a jungle in Ngapudaw Township, Ayeyawady Region on 1 December, reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

Upon receiving information, officials from the Forest Department together with policemen from a local police station rushed to the scene near Hsinma forest reserve on the Pathein-Mawtin Road in Ngapudaw Township, Ayeyawady Region to identify the dead elephant. When police and local officials arrived at the scene of the crime they discovered that the elephant had been skinned and then burned to death. The elephant was male and measured about 7 ft. in height.

 

The elephant was around 10 years old and is believed to have been killed by poachers about three days ago. Arrangements are being made take action against the poachers in accordance with the law, the MOHA said.—MOHA
