Kawkareik, 23 April

With an aim to contribute to Covid-19 prevention and control measures and to ensure local people can buy vegetables and meats for their daily meals without any difficulty, a vendor’s market was moved into Kayin New Year festival ground in the town of Kawkareik, Kayin state yesterday morning.

Vendors as well as buyers were allowed to sell and buy after having worn facial masks in accordance with guidances issued by the ministry of health.  Kayin state Hlttaw Vice Chairman Nang Thuzar Win, Amyotha Hluttaw MP U Besan Thein Myint, township adminstrator U San Nu and departmental officials handed out 1000 pieces of facial masks to those who didn’t have masks.

There are over 400 vendors and places for them were marked with white paint on the ground, separating at least six ft. apart from each other. Vendors are asked to adopt food hygiene for the safety of customers. And vendors found guilty of violating the rules will be subject to the existing laws, according to U Ye Lin Oo, executive officer from the township Development Committee.—Soe Htet Aung (IPRD)
