US sanctions Iran's foreign minister

The United States has imposed financial sanctions on Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is Iran's key negotiation official for Washington.

The US government said on Wednesday that Zarif, who is Iran's top diplomat, is spreading Iranian "propaganda and disinformation." It says he continues to support the country's nuclear development.

The US administration says Zarif is oppressing his fellow people and infringing on the freedom of expression in the country.

Meanwhile, the administration of President Donald Trump is calling on its allies to form an international coalition to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump has expressed hope to have dialogue with Iran. But such negotiations have apparently become increasingly difficult following the sanctions imposed on Zarif.Zarif responded on Twitter saying the US sanctions have no effect on him.
