The Earth serves as a vital habitat for all forms of life, encompassing humans, animals, plants, and various objects. Every existence relies fundamentally on Mother Earth’s support.
With its vast expanses of freshwater and seawater, as well as solid ground, the Earth’s ecosystems require preservation for their perpetual existence. As the most intellectually advanced species, humans bear the responsibility of ensuring Mother Earth’s sustainability.
To achieve this, attention must be directed towards restoring ecosystems to shield the planet from natural disasters like extreme heat, wildfires, floods, catastrophes and so on, which imperil millions of living beings, including humans worldwide. Sustainable ecosystems offer a promising chance for the survival of all life forms. Simultaneously, efforts must be made to safeguard the perpetual existence of flora and fauna species globally and address pressing issues such as climate change, global warming, environmental degradation, and the prevention of catastrophes.
Human-induced alterations to nature, including deforestation, changes in land use, intensified agriculture and livestock production, and the illegal wildlife trade, hasten the planet’s destruction, exacerbating the challenges we face.
Recognizing the urgency of these issues, the United Nations General Assembly designated 11 April as International Mother Earth Day in 2009. This day serves as a reminder of Mother Earth’s significance as humanity’s shared home and underscores the imperative to protect it to improve livelihoods, combat climate change, and halt biodiversity loss.
Despite their societal utility, plastics pose a growing threat due to their persistent presence in the environment. Plastic waste has become a global concern, prompting nations worldwide to seek effective solutions. Consequently, the theme for the 2024 International Mother Earth Day is “Planet vs Plastics.”
Concerted efforts must be made to manage plastic waste effectively in order to sustain the health of Mother Earth. This involves prioritizing the cleanliness of our planet by reducing plastic pollution on a global scale. Addressing this challenge will not only enhance public health and living standards but also ensure a healthier, more resilient planet for future generations.
As such, priority must be given to shaping Mother Earth to be clean, tidy and free from plastic waste all over the world. If so, global people can enjoy good health and higher living standards by mitigating various diseases based on plastic waste. Hence, individuals are responsible for sustaining the health of Mother Earth with proper management of plastic waste.
